Ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claims Arsenal don’t have the players required to win the Premier League this season, as we lack players willing to “go that extra mile”.
The former Red believes that without players like Francis Coquelin on the pitch who are willing to do the dirty work, we don’t have enough players with that grit and determination to go all the way.
Gerrard was speaking ahead of our clash with Dinamo Zagreb, joining Arsenal legend Ian Wright on BT Sport.

With Coquelin out we certainly have less options when it comes to defensive midfield, and that is more often than not where you look for those players who can “do the dirty work”. We’ve got plenty of players willing to go the extra mile though, with Alexis Sanchez the perfect example. His work-rate is incredibly infectious, and the entire team often look to rise to his level.

To say we’re incapable of winning the league is ridiculous, as we’ve easily been among the best teams in the Premier League this season. Injuries could certainly derail our campaign, but to say we haven’t got the players required to mount a title challenge is just not true.
Our shock loss against West Bromwich Albion was obviously a blow to our title aspirations, but we’re still just two points behind the league leaders. We’re more than capable of taking top spot before Christmas, especially when you look at our upcoming fixtures.

But perhaps we should listen to Gerrard and take his advice, as he obviously learnt a huge amount about winning Premier League titles during his time at Liverpool, didn’t he?
