We got off to a decent start against Newcastle, and we looked far and away the most likely to make something happen. We saw our advantage amplified after just 16 minutes, when Aleksander Mitrovic was sent off for the home side after a vicious stamp on Francis Coquelin.
Arsenal fans were left outraged shortly before the incident, with Hector Bellerin clearly taken out by Florian Thauvin in the area. It was a clear penalty, and everyone could see it except referee Andre Marriner.
The shoe was on the other foot after Mitrovic’s challenge however, with the St James’ Park faithful showing their dissatisfaction at the referee’s decision.
Regardless of what the Newcastle fans thought, the referee got things right. It was a very clear red card, with the Serbian raking his studs down Coquelin’s shin in a very deliberate manner.

Mitrovic has serious disciplinary issues, and has been booked a number of times already in his young Newcastle career. This is unlikely to be the last time either, as he is a very physical and aggressive player.
Arsenal transfer news
We are yet to get the breakthrough at St James’ Park, but you would hope against ten men it’s only a matter of time.
