Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has seemed off colour so far this season, at least compared to the highs of the previous season where he was the one of the reasons we sat at the top of the table for so long. But his innate quality cannot be denied, and he proved that yet again yesterday, with a wonder strike against Turkish team Galatasaray.
Although Arsenal’s efforts were eventually pointless, since Dortmund held on to top the group, it was still a strong performance from the Gunners’ side. Podolski, who has been sidelined for much of the season, proved his class as well with a couple of goals and the youngsters gave a good account of themselves.
The talking point of the match will remain Ramsey’s strike however. The player was 30 yards out when a poorly cleared corner fell straight to him. The first time shot Ramsey attempted was bang on target, rising into the top corner. Both the player and his teammates were left in delighted shock, and this is surely one of the contenders for goal of the season.
Speaking after the match, a visibly delighted Ramsey called it ‘one of the best goals he has ever scored’.
The ball came to the edge of the box and I thought, ‘why not have a go?’. So I had a go and thankfully it went in. It’s up there with the best I’ve ever scored but I still really like the goal against Norwich City.

We looked dangerous every time we went forward tonight which is pleasing. We scored a few goals which is always nice and we took advantage of the opportunities. It was nice to get the four goals that we scored.
We came here with a few players making their first-team debuts and they did great. It was nice to come here and nearly come away with what we needed to do to finish top. It wasn’t to be but we finished off strongly.
It was really nice to see some of the 17-year-olds making their debuts and I was really pleased for them. This club is all about promoting younger players with talent and we’ve done that again tonight.
Let’s hope that this is a sign that the midfielder is getting back to his form from last season. We sorely need him back, especially with the injury problems we have been facing. Either way, this is a goal he will surely cherish for years to come.
