Before kick off today there were still quite a few fans holding out hope that Tottenham would bottle it against Newcastle and we’d see a last day of the season St Totteringham’s Day. It was always an outside chance though, with an already relegated Newcastle side having nothing but pride to play for.
At half time it’s looking incredibly likely that Arsenal are going to pinch second spot and finish above Tottenham once again though, with Newcastle destroying Spurs 2-0 at the break while we lead 1-0 against Aston Villa.
Georginio Wijnaldum got the first, but one goal is easily overtuned and you certainly can’t relax at that point. Aleksandar Mitrovic’s goal just before the break gave them a very comfortable 2-0 lead though, and hopefully they can hold on – or even extend their lead – in the second half.

Olivier Giroud got the goal for Arsenal, with the Frenchman powering in a header after finding himself in acres of space. It was a wicked cross from Nacho Monreal, but it was all about the accuracy of Giroud’s header. He was quite a way out, but managed to find the corner.

We certainly need to kick on in the second half and get at least another goal or two, with such a narrow lead definitely a little disconcerting. If Tottenham lose against Newcastle and we fail to beat Aston Villa it would be an absolute travesty, and Arsene Wenger would never hear the end of it.
Arsenal transfer news
It would be fantastic for the manager to keep up his record of finishing above Tottenham every single season, and the internet would positively explode if an apparently poor Arsenal side were to finish above the best Tottenham side in decades.
