Arsenal took the lead against Spurs in the first North London Derby of the season this afternoon but were denied the three points by a Harry Kane penalty. The Englishman slotted it home just after half-time and Theo Walcott has expressed his frustration over the spot kick (via Arsenal.com).
The Gunners led their North London rivals as the second half kicked off but Laurent Koscielny’s foul on Mousa Dembele was hardly subtle. Mark Clattenburg pointed straight at the spot and the visitors’ star man stepped up.
Kane was starting for the first time since September after being sidelined with an injury but slotted the ball home despite Petr Cech’s best efforts. The Czech stopper was furious with himself after coming so close to saving the strike.
Speaking after the match, Theo Walcott stated it was actually his advice which didn’t work out well for the Arsenal goalkeeper.
“I tried to give Petr a clue where Harry was going but I got that completely wrong in the end,” said the Gunners forward according to Arsenal.com.
The England international expanded on his disappointment at the match but stated that it might prove to be a decent result in the end.

“We always want to win these games,” added Theo.
“It’s very disappointing to not get the win with our home support. The fans were fantastic from kick-off until the end and were behind us all the way.
“We couldn’t get the result, unfortunately. They all wanted the bragging rights. These games hurt me more than any other game.
“When you look at how tight the Premier League is and the teams that are fighting for the Premier League, you probably think this is a good result.
“We probably didn’t create as much as we wanted to either. These games are about working hard for the team and trying to get the result but, looking back at it, it might be a good result in the end.”
Arsenal have now dropped to fourth place in the league with 24 points and sit behind Liverpool, Manchester City and now Chelsea in the table. The title race is starting to heat up but Gunners fans will look at today as a missed opportunity.
