Carl Jenkinson spent last season on loan at West Ham, and it looks as though he is set to spend yet another season away from the Emirates. We appeared to have agreed a £2m loan move to Sunderland (via the Daily Mail) for the full-back, but the Hammers haven’t given up the chase for him yet.
West Ham co-chairman David Gold insists they are doing everything possible to bring Jenkinson back to the club, and is keen to get new boss Slaven Bilic his top targets for his first season as manager, as reported by the BBC.

The young England international enjoyed a fantastic season at Upton Park, and looks to have really benefited from regular first team football. That’s something he was unlikely to see at Arsenal, with Mathieu Debuchy brought in to replace Bacary Sagna, and Hector Bellerin emerging as the surprise package of the season.
It makes little difference whether he ends up at Sunderland or West Ham, as long as he is a regular fixture in the starting XI. He still has a chance of succeeding at Arsenal, and it would be a shame to see his potential go unrealised.
Gold definitely seems keen to get the 23-year-old back, but the suggestion that it may not work out perhaps tells us they are unwilling to pay the full loan fee we are requesting.

“We know we need a right-back and will work tirelessly to bring in Carl. If that does not work out, we have other irons in the fire,” said Gold, as quoted by the BBC.
“We said to Slaven ‘get your priority list and let’s see what we can do’. We have a track record of working with our managers.”
Jenkinson could well be a long term replacement for Debuchy, and it would be fantastic to see two young top quality right-backs – like Jenkinson and Bellerin – battling for a starting spot.
