Arsene Wenger admits it has been a frustrating start to the new season but stresses his team have what it takes to reverse the situation. Arsenal have won just two of their 8 games in the league this season and managed just one clean chit in 10 games including the Champions league.
Wenger says the bedding of new players and post world cup hangover has had an impact on the team. Arsenal bought five players this season and the World cup winning Germans returned to the team only a week after the season started.
The boss called on for improvement in offense and defence but believes it’s only a matter of time before his team find their mojo again. Arsenal have conceded the opening goal in 5 of their 8 league games and won only in one of those.
It is frustrating, but we have to play better. That is how we have to think. We dominate our games. It is just when we have a weaker moment we pay for it. That is why I think we have to produce more effort defensively as a team.
We could be more efficient offensively and defensively, but that will come. I can understand that better because there are players who are new. I think as well we are never for a long time in positions where we have the lead, we are always chasing back. Of course that makes it more difficult offensively.
For example against Hull we were 1-0 up and suddenly we are 2-1 down. But if we score the second goal they have to come out. And with our players we are comfortable on the break. I think 95 per cent is there. It is normal that after a World Cup, and [when you] have new players. You see the main thing is there: the attitude, the quality. But the water boils at 100 degrees and not at 99, and we have to add that degree.
No more excuses, it’s time Arsenal iron out the deficencies. We can’t afford to lose further ground on Chelsea. We are two months into the new season and have dropped enough points already. In a week when Chelsea meet United, it’s imperative that Arsenal defeat a beleaguered Sunderland.
