Arsene Wenger has admitted he could give Alexis Sanchez a winter break in a bid to allow the Chile international some rest and avoid overloading his key man.
The Chile international was an injury concern over the international break after picking up a hamstring problem but still managed to feature against Uruguay and Manchester United, albeit with his thigh heavily strapped.
Sanchez has already made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners and has admitted he hates being rested, but Wenger says he would like the forward to have some time out.
“If I had the possibility I would like to give it [winter break] to everybody,” he told a pre-match press conference.
“I just had the luxury to do it with Özil because Germany didn’t pick him but Chile had World Cup qualifiers.
“In fact, he didn’t play the first game. When they played in Colombia he didn’t play so he wasn’t overloaded with games before the Manchester United match. “

Wenger also insisted that Sanchez was fully fit after his recent injury and says he would never select a player who has not fit enough to play.
“Yes he has recovered completely. He had a bandage before the game because he had some tightness in his hamstring but he was checked before the game. I follow all instructions of the medical staff and the player,” he added.
“If they declare he is fit to play. I never forced in my whole life anyone to play or to be injected. If the player he says he is 100%, after that I make my decision. The suggestions that we push him to play are completely wrong.”
While Sanchez is arguably one of the first names on the teamsheet, few would complain if Wenger were to give him a rest in a bid to keep him fit and fresh, particularly with Olivier Giroud looking to return to top form and with Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez due back from injury soon.
