Arsene Wenger has confirmed star man Alexis Sanchez is ‘jaded’ after a huge amount of competitive football recently according to quotes on Arsenal.com, leading to suggestions he will be soon afforded a break.
The Gunners enjoyed an exciting night at Emirates, rectifying a terrible start to their Champions League campaign with a pulsating 2-0 win over Bayern Munich. The win came at a price however with Aaron Ramsey set for a spell on the sidelines, and concerns over Sanchez’s fitness coming to light.
Wenger was quizzed on the Chilean’s fitness in his post-match interview, with the Frenchman raising concern over the amount of football the attacker has played with the Gunners and his national team in recent weeks.
“Alexis? You could see he was jaded physically. He still pushes himself too much and finished exhausted. Two games with Chile, plus travelling plus Watford and tonight. It’s too much, ” The Frenchman is quoted by Arsenal’s official website.
Alexis was a constant threat against Bayern Munich, launching numerous counter attacks for the hosts against a side who dominated possession for majority of the game. He may not have gotten on the scoresheet but his commitment and constant harassing opened up play for us on a number of occasions.
The concern over fatigue is once again coming at a difficult time. Arsenal face Everton this weekend and we will need the Chilean especially with Ramsey now out with his hamstring injury. Wenger will have one eye on Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup next week as a chance to rest our key forward however ahead of the Swansea clash the following weekend.

Alexis clearly needs some rest bite as on a number of times he played some heart-in-mouth passes into no mans land in our own half. Luckily we were not punished, namely to the brilliance of our backline and Petr Cech. But the lack of concentration in those moments is a worry for Alexis. The last thing we need is the Chile international to pull up with a muscular injury like Ramsey.
