The Gunners have been relying heavily on Olivier Giroud up front this term, with the out-of-form Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo, who is currently injured, the only other recognised centre-forwards at the club.
The Frenchman has stated that he is not against bringing in a new striker in January, but he feels that the fit again Theo Walcott and the soon to be available Lukas Podolski can easily be deployed up front if necessary.
According to Mirror, he said:
Theo gives us qualities that other players haven’t got. It’s a different option. Theo also gives us an opportunity to be a mobile striker. If we lose Giroud today we have nobody with body weight up front.
I think we can win the title without signing a striker. Podolski is not back but he shouldn’t be too far now. They make it less critical to sign a striker.
Look I am not against it (January signing). I don’t say I never make a mistake – I certainly made some. Sometimes it is because we didn’t sign the right player.

It is always difficult in the middle of the season. If somebody is doing well somewhere the clubs do not necessarily want to sell him. They can wait until the end of the season. Most of the time it is because we didn’t find.
Olivier Giroud has started this season in excellent fashion, scoring seven and assisting five in all competitions. Despite not being the best goal scoring record, he has became one of Arsenal’s most important players; he wins aerial duels, is a threat from set-pieces and holds up the ball extremely well.
He will have some games from time to time where he will struggle and does not play well, that is all part of any strikers game. What is worrying is that our backup striker Nicklas Bendtner is average to say the least. We do, as Wenger said, have Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski who can both occupy the Arsenal striker role, but are better of on the wings.
Giroud alone is not going to win us the title for two reasons, the fact that he is on his own and he would really thrive with a good striking partner. I’m not talking about someone like Walcott or Podolski, rather a pure striker. Someone like Benzema, Lewandowski or Suarez would really make a difference to our season. If we can sign a top class striker this January we would be favourites to win the league without any question.
