Arsene Wenger has praised his players after the 2-0 victory over FC Basel last night. Two goals from Theo Walcott helped secure all three points to cap an excellent week for The Gunners.
The 3-0 drubbing of Chelsea last weekend saw the Arsenal fans in full voice and on their feet cheering, a sight seldom seen at the Emirates. The win drew praise from fans and pundits alike and last night’s victory over FC Basel has done the same. This time it is Arsene Wenger’s turn to heap the praise on his team, arguing that they are showing “interesting potential.”
“The first half was top quality, the pace, the quality of our movement, our technical quality.” Wenger told Arsenal.com. “We created many dangerous situations.
“I would like to congratulate my team for the quality of what they produced tonight but I have a regret – we didn’t take enough of our chances. But it’s a good basis to have a taste for more.”
A victory in the Champions League holds high significance as Arsenal attempt to top their group. The Gunners haven’t won their group since the 2011-12 campaign which is one of the main reasons behind the club’s failure to get past the Round of 16. The Champions League trophy remains elusive to Wenger but the 2-0 victory against FC Basel is a good start to this season’s campaign.
However Wenger was quick to calm things. According to him, it’s way ‘too early’ to speculate anything, but what’s quite apparent is that Wenger believes in this team.

“It looks like the team has interesting potential,” the Boss added. “So we have to be ambitious and keep our feet on the ground and continue to develop.”
With the amount of talent at his disposal and the form Arsenal are showing at moment, it’s hard to argue otherwise.
