Arsenal fans are clamouring for Arsene Wenger to be more active in the transfer market, with Petr Cech our solitary signing so far. Speaking after the win over Newcastle, Wenger claimed he was still hoping to do business, but admitted he wasn’t sure if it would be possible, as reported by the Mirror.
We’ve struggled for goals so far this season, and after four games Olivier Giroud is the only Arsenal player on the scoresheet. Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played huge parts in goals against Crystal Palace and Newcastle respectively, but in the end they were chalked up to own goals.
A striker is a must this season, with Giroud and Theo Walcott our only real options. Danny Welbeck has shown he isn’t up to the task, and we could certainly improve drastically on all three.
Wenger suggested that we were still active in the transfer market, but his comments aren’t totally positive.
“We have offensive potential but you always want more and more goalscorers,” he said.
“We have not fired offensively, our finishing has not been clinical and we have to improve on that.

“We are open and we are in the transfer market. If we find an exceptional player in any sector, we will do it.
“At the moment I don’t know if something will happen or not.”

Hopefully there’s still time to see a top striker through the door at the Emirates, as we badly need to strengthen if we are hoping to challenge the likes of Manchester City this season.
