Arsene Wenger is really risking the ire of Arsenal fans with his latest comments, as the Frenchman has essentially blamed the supporters for the club’s poor performance this season, as reported by the Mirror.
A huge number of fans are calling for Wenger’s head, and after one of the most disappointing seasons in a while it’s getting harder and harder to support him. A few years ago we were struggling financially, competing with teams like Manchester City and Chelsea who were regularly throwing their weight around, and winning the Premier League looked just out of our reach.
After consecutive FA Cup wins, a couple of strong signings, and the decline of some of our main competition however, things were looking much brighter ahead of this season. The league looked more than winnable half way through the campaign, but our poor form in 2016 clearly made that impossible.
Wenger suggests our poor home form is due to the hostile climate at the Emirates, and suggests that our away form is evidence that we are a title winning side.
“We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played at home in a very difficult climate,” he said.
“We have to realise that, away from home, we are championship winners. At home, against the smaller teams, we lost the league.

“This club does have special values though and one I’ve experienced over the years is to stick together and support the team. There’s no success without that.”
The manager is wrong about our away form, as we haven’t even had the best away form in the league. But regardless, our home form has still been shocking recently.
The home fans could certainly do more to support the team, but the supporters have to be given something to shout about. Wenger has arguably bred this environment, with his stubbornness and refusal to adapt inciting fury from the fans.
Arsenal transfer news
There’s been a bit of stagnation at Arsenal under Wenger, and the fans want change. Until we get this change there isn’t going to be total contentment at the Emirates, and the climate won’t improve unless things at the club improve. It’s a vicious cycle, but hopefully with a few signings we can buck the trends.
