The Gunners are set to host back to back matches at the Emirates against battlers Norwich City and Everton, a win over both will catapult them straight up to third and make it five league wins on the trot for Wenger’s revitalized side.
Since the redeeming second leg Bayern win in the Champions League the Gunners have been bang in form, and that was without top scorer Theo Walcott and arguably their best player Jack Wilshere. The decision to pick Lukasz Fabianski and Laurent Koscielny has proven fruitful, while shifting Santi Cazorla wide and bringing in Tomas Rosicky has paid dividends, so what should the lineup be for the season-defining week ahead?
Fabianksi has to retain his spot with the Polish international turning in some solid performances recently conceding just twice in four matches, while in contrast Szczesny conceded three times when featuring for the U21 side against Liverpool this week however he was not at fault for any of the finishes. Laurent Koscielny will inevitably partner the recalled captain Thomas Vermaelen after the loss of Per Mertesacker to a straight red last week.
Monreal and Sagna will take their rightful starting spots on their respective wings, while up front Giroud is a sure thing, so it is the midfield that will provide Wenger a slight selection dilemma.
So, why change a winning central midfield formula? The inclusion of Rosicky has been crucial with his form inspirational, which was shown perfectly again on the weekend with his brace sinking West Brom, but will the imminent return of both Wilshere and Walcott affect the chosen team? Quite possibly not. Ramsey and Arteta have taken to providing a solid anchor to the midfield allowing Rosicky free licence to operate in the more attacking role with Cazorla on the left, meanwhile Gervinho has rediscovered some form of late out wide in the absence of Walcott.
Walcott coming in on the right is the most straight forward decision, while replacing Ramsey for Wilshere seems the only viable option for the Englishman – Rosicky has to start. With the harder of the two fixtures against Everton coming on the Tuesday, it would perhaps not be wise to rush Wilshere for this weekend and utilize him fresh and raring to go against the Toffees.
