Arsene Wenger has claimed that the calibre of teams in the Europa League this season is the highest he has seen (via Arsenal.com).
After consecutive wins, Arsenal return to Europa League action on Thursday evening as they welcome AC Milan to the Emirates for a crucial second leg tie.
The Gunners carry a 2-0 lead from the first leg after that rather surprising victory out in Milan.
AC Milan are one of the form sides in Europe and they aren’t the only major club which finds itself not in the Champions League but in Europe’s second-tier club competition this season.
“You never compare,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference.
“You’re right I want to be in Champions League but if you look at Europa League the teams are very strong.

“We play Milan to get into quarter finals. You have Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and the top French teams. This competition is at a higher level than ever.”
It’s true that there are some very good teams left in this season’s Europa League. The sides mentioned by Wenger certainly would not be out of place in any Champions League knockout round but have had to settle for the Europa League.
