Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media ahead of our Premier League clash at Newcastle United, and the Frenchman admitted that he’s identified “targets”, but isn’t confident that we’ll see any more arrivals before the window slams shut (via James Olley from The Evening Standard).
Wenger says club has targets they will pursue before Tuesday but is “not very confident” #afc will sign anyone because “we are not close”.

We have become notorious for conducting our business late on in the window and it can no longer be seen as a coincidence, such is the regularity of the situation we currently find ourselves in.
One has to wonder; if Wenger has finally identified players that can improve our squad, why has he waited until now to make moves for them?
Leaving our business this late is a massive risk and in all likelihood, we will be left with players who aren’t of the highest calibre with top clubs reluctant to sell their best players without identifying a replacement.
Mesut Ozil remains the exception to the rule and his deal was a special case given that it was tied to the biggest transfer deal in history as Real Madrid signed Gareth Bale (via BBC Sport).

Other than that, we’ve seen the likes of Julio Baptista, Andre Santos, Yossi Benayoun, Lassana Diarra and Danny Welbeck join on the final day, something which will no doubt have us feeling slight trepidation as the clock ticks down.
Hopefully, Wenger can pull a huge signing out of the bag.
