It seems with every single passing game we lose two or three players to injury, and today’s 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion appears to be no different with Nacho Monreal, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all picking up knocks.
Arsene Wenger confirmed the trio all have ‘problems’ but was unable to give a more definitive update on their respective injuries.
Monreal was replaced by Gibbs after the Spaniard hobble off with a knee problem half way through the first period. His replacement Gibbs then took a blow to his ankle after a collision and adds further to the Gunners defensive injury woes. Oxlade Chamberlain, also a substitute, left the pitch after picking up a knee injury too following a challenge.
Wenger told reporters:
Gibbs struggled a little bit with an ankle problem and Monreal with a knee problem. Oxlade-Chamberlain also had a knee problem.
I don’t know. We have to see how they recover on Monday. We have Oxlade-Chamberlain, Monreal and Gibbs who have knocks but I don’t know how bad it is.
The injury situation is incredibly worrying especially given how fragile Laurent Koscielny has been this season. Hopefully all three will make a recovery ahead of Wednesday’s home tie against Southampton, we need at least one of Gibbs or Monreal to fill the left back slot.
