It’s been a frustrating summer for Gooners but these last 48 hours have given the fans reason to be optimistic for the season ahead. Within the space of two days Arsenal have been strongly linked with two players and secured their first win of the season and today Arsene Wenger said that the signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez should be announced early next week.
“I think they should go through, both of them.” Wenger told Arsenal.com. “They had medicals. We have to finish the paperwork and I don’t know exactly when we will announce it but look, I think it could be announced at the beginning of the week.”
Defender Shkodran Mustafi has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and Arsene Wenger seems delight to have finally got his man. The German World Cup winner will join from Valencia in a deal worth around £35 million, making him one of the most expensive defenders in history.
Lucas Perez’s expected transfer wasn’t quite the saga that Mustafi’s was. The forward should complete his move from Deportivo La Coruna after Arsenal activated the 27-year-old’s release clause. The transfer should cost The Gunners around £17.1 million after the North London side beat Everton to the signing.
An impressive win rounds off an excellent few days for Arsenal Football Club. Fans were entering the 2016-17 with a negativity which hasn’t been seen for years but can now look forward to an exciting campaign.
