We have recently been linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, but Arsene Wenger insists that there is nothing behind the rumours, as reported by Sky Sports.
The Sun‘s report (where the story originated from) suggests we were preparing a massive £40m bid for the 27-year-old, which arguably could have proved to be the signing of the summer. Wenger has quickly moved to quash the rumours however, branding the rumours rubbish.
“I don’t know where that story has come from. But that’s not happening at the moment,” Wenger said (via Sky Sports).
The original report claims Real are keen to offload the Frenchman, with new boss Rafael Benitez looking to shake things up a bit.
The signing of Benzema would be a superb one, and he is arguably the calibre of striker who could help take our game to the next level.
Wenger is notoriously tight lipped regarding transfers, and we can’t take his word for it that a move for Benzema isn’t in the pipes.

Hopefully we aren’t done in the transfer market just yet, as despite Petr Cech’s signing being an excellent one, we are still in need of reinforcements in other areas of the pitch.
