Arsene Wenger has dismissed the latest rumours linking Hector Bellerin with a move to Barcelona after the defender signed a new long-term contract last year. The reports of Barcelona’s interest in the player have been public for well over a year but the rumours have been amped up in recent weeks (via Arsenal.com).
There may be growing fears that a couple of Arsenal’s star players will leave in the summer but it seems that they will not be joined by Hector Bellerin.
The full-back has long been linked with a return to former club FC Barcelona and while it was assumed that those rumours had been put to bed, they have returned in recent weeks.
Now, Arsene Wenger has again denied the reports, pointing out that Bellerin only signed a new contract at the Emirates a few months ago.
“No,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference. “We have just extended his contract and he has an unbelievable amount of years to go.
“I believe it’s very difficult to take this thing seriously.”

Only Mesut Özil, Alexis Sanchez and Nacho Monreal have started more matches for Arsenal than the 21-year-old this season. Bellerin’s progress stalled slightly earlier in the season but he seems to be picking it back up with a couple of impressive performances in recent weeks.
There are few better young full-backs in the world than Hector Bellerin and it is vitally important that Arsenal hang onto the 21-year-old. Hopefully, Arsene Wenger’s words will prove to be accurate and the Spaniard will remain in North London for many years to come.
