We have been repeatedly linked with a move for a defensive midfielder this summer, with Grzegorz Krychowiak the most recently touted transfer target. Arsene Wenger was asked whether there was any chance of us signing the Polish star, but was fairly blunt when giving his answer, as reported by The Telegraph.
The 24-year-old has been fantastic since joining Sevilla, and has adapted to La Liga superbly. We have been linked with a £21.4m move for the midfielder (via the Metro), but Wenger is adamant that he won’t be arriving at the Emirates this window.
When asked if there was any truth in the rumours linking us to Krychowiak, Wenger simply answered: “No.”
We have seen a number of transfer targets join other clubs this summer, and our options are slowly dwindling. We are badly in need of reinforcements in that department, as we can’t rely on Francis Coquelin to be fit and in form for the entirety of the campaign.
Krychowiak would be an excellent acquisition, but he certainly isn’t the only defensive midfielder out there.

We can’t necessarily trust Wenger’s comments, as the Frenchman would be unlikely to reveal if we were really after Krychowiak. A move is looking less likely though, so we may have to start looking elsewhere.
