Arsene Wenger is painted as a frugal manager, with the Frenchman rarely splashing the cash in the transfer market. He insists that he is willing to spend big this summer, though only if the right player becomes available, as reported by Arsenal.com.
The boss claims we are still on the lookout for new additions this summer, but continued by highlighting the amount of money we’ve spent in recent seasons on signings such as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil.
“We are open-minded [about transfers] everywhere and we work very hard to find the quality of the players we can. Let’s not forget that we have spent a lot of money in the last two seasons and we have bought as well Gabriel in the middle of last year to give him time to adapt and be ready for this season,” Wenger said (via Arsenal.com).
“If there is something more, we are not reluctant to spend the money. I know that you like to paint me as doing that! I didn’t do it for a while because we didn’t have the money. Now that we have, if we find the players we will spend the money.”
We are still arguably a few players short of a team capable of challenging for the highest honours, so we need Wenger to open his cheque book this summer. The signing of Petr Cech is a superb one, but we are still short in defensive midfield and up front.
There are a number of top quality players who would meet our requirements, and if money really isn’t an obstacle then there should be no excuses in the transfer market.

Hopefully Wenger is able to bring his top targets to the club this summer, and we build a team capable of toppling Chelsea in 2015/16.
