The gunners have gone on an impressive run of a six game winning streak in the Premier League and much praise must be showered on Koscielny and Vermaelen for giving the gunners the ability to ‘win ugly’ when needed.
While the two have had their contributed their share, the ever reliable Bacary Sagna and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny have also transformed Arsenal’s seemingly fragile defence into a solid unit.
Although I haven’t mentioned Gibbs, the young Englishman also seems to improving with every game.
Arsene said on Vermaelen and Koscielny:
They look solid and I think they have a good balance defensively and offensively.
They can both play with the ball as well and for us that is very important for the basis of our game. It starts at the back and they have the quality to do that as well.

Defensively they are not the tallest but they have a fantastic leap and both of them have good pace. Vermaelen looks like a frustrated centre forward because he has the timing to get into the box as well.
There is no doubt both Koscielny and Vermaelen have both offensive and defensive talent. This has been proved by Vermaelen’s last minute win at Newcastle as well as his headed goal recently against Tottenham. Koscielny’s turn around this season has also been remarkable, greatly due to Wenger’s faith in the Frenchman.
