Arsenal are lining up a move for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic. The 26-year-old only moved to the Italian giants in the summer but the Gunners are now being linked with a £28 million transfer for the player (via The Sun).
The Gunners aren’t exactly lacking options in midfield. With Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin ready to play and the trio of Santi Cazorla, Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere returning in the coming months, Arsenal are hardly lacking in that department.
It’s always a surprise to see the Gunners linked with another midfielder. Well, the January transfer window is now open and the links are coming in. Miralem Pjanic is the latest player to be linked with a move to the Emirates, with many sections of the British press reporting that a move is on the cards.
The Sun reports that Arsene Wenger has even contacted the player to find out whether a potential move could be done in the future. The paper reports that these talks were successful and that the pair are working on a verbal deal.
The article also reports that Pjanic is viewed by Wenger as a long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard is 32 and given the midfielder’s injury problems over the last 12 months, doubts must be cast over his reliability to keep fit in this squad.
Miralem Pjanic is undoubtedly a quality player and if any deal could be done, it must be investigated. Still, given the wealth of options available in midfield, you’d assume that at least one player would have to leave in order for the Juventus man to come in.
