Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly met with Robin van Persie’s agent to discuss a potentially stunning move back to the Emirates Stadium, according to reports in Metro.
The Dutchman forced a move away from the Gunners and joined Manchester United from Arsenal in 2012 for a reported fee of £24 million.
The report states that Wenger met Van Persie’s representative in London late last month where it was made clear that he wants to leave United and go back to the Gunners. The 30 year old has become frustrated with life under new manager David Moyes and is now angling for a switch back to Arsenal.
It further states that Wenger is believed to be now considering the move and with United planning an overhaul of their squad in the summer, he could be made available. He is believed to have consulted his playing staff to find out whether he would be welcomed back.
The French manager is known to keep his cards close to his chest and when asked about the possibility of bringing him to the club this week, he refused to offer anything concrete. Van Persie made 278 appearances for the Gunners between 2004 and 2012 after joining the club from Feyenoord.
Olivier Giroud has been a revelation this season with his all round play, but he’s nowhere near the level of Van Persie and few front men in the world possess the finishing talents that the enigmatic Dutchman has.

He scorched the hearts of Gooners worldwide when he abandoned us, after enjoying his first really good season after all the injury problems and other issues that had made his Arsenal career nothing more than potentially brilliant. He accomplished what he wanted at Old Trafford as he won his trophy and got a hefty pay increase in the process.
If there is any truth to the rumour, Arsenal shouldn’t even have a slight thought of bringing him back, even if van Persie is pining for a triumphant return to north London, Wenger needs to dump him the same way he publicly did to us. The team spirit and togetherness that Wenger has fostered in the team is worth more than one player.
It seems he has realised that the grass isn’t as greener as it once was on the other side and opinions will definitely be divided whether we need him back, but personally I would say no.
