Our next game is against Hull City this Monday evening, and Arsene Wenger insists that he is in no way taking Steve Bruce’s side for granted.
A few weeks ago this would have seemed like a simple fixture, with Hull enduring a horrendous run of form. They have looked resurgent in recent weeks however, even coming away with a 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield last time out.
Wenger is well aware that the Tigers are fighting to avoid relegation, and knows there are no easy games in the Premier League. He knows Hull will represent a serious challenge, and as we saw in last season’s FA Cup final, starting slowly can cause serious problems.
“They had two great performances when they were in quite a bad situation, but they had two amazing results,” said Wenger, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“Hull have just beaten Liverpool at home, so we are warned that we will face a big challenge there.”
We may have kissed goodbye to Premier League glory for another season – with Chelsea securing the title with a win over Crystal Palace – but second place is ours to lose. We have failed to finish higher than third for a number of years, and successive FA Cup titles and a second placed finish would prove a successful season if we can manage it.
We should be dismantling Hull regardless of their form, and our own form is certainly nothing to sniff at. We have the majority of the squad injury free and ready for action, so this is a game we should be winning easily.
