Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be in line for a shock return to France with Monaco considering making an offer for him, according to reports in the Telegraph.
The Frenchman’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of the season and despite reports that he is poised to sign a new deal, he’s yet to put pen-to-paper on the contract extension, leaving Monaco with a chance of luring him back to the club he managed for seven years between 1987-1994.
The report states that Monaco are ready to make Wenger the world’s richest manager as they try to lure their former coach back to France. It further states that a £10 million-a-year after tax offer has been tabled which would make him the top paid boss. Guardiola is currently raking in the most at £14.8 million a year before tax.
However, Wenger in an interview with Eurosport this weekend said he would be signing a new contract with Arsenal to extend his 18-year stay at the club. He said:
(The contract) is not totally done but it should be soon.
I am proud of my team’s attitude because they have been through tough times. They have always been present even after disappointments and they have.
When you have been in the same club for 18 years, and you say ‘my final decision depends on only one simple match’ it is a bit ridiculous, in my opinion.
The 64 year old has already managed Monaco and guided them to the French title in 1988, the highest point of his seven years at Stade Louis II before moving to Japan.

Despite the good ties with Monaco and a huge offer, I feel Wenger has a stronger bond with Arsenal than the French club. The Gunners fell short in the title race this season, but there were a lot of bright spots for the team and there have also been strong indications from the man himself that he will commit his future to the North London club. Such a huge tax-free offer would turn many heads, but I don’t think it can change Le Prof.
