Arsène Wenger believes youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is developing very well, and is working hard on the training pitch while he waits patiently for first team opportunities.
The 18-year-old summer signing from Southampton has had a dream start to his Arsenal career after netting in his first two starts for the first team against Shrewsbury Town and Olympiacos. Wenger has insisted that he will not rush the development of the U21 England winger, and so he has not appeared since the Gunners Carling Cup victory over Bolton.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will feature against Manchester City in Tuesday nights Carling Cup tie, so he will get another chance to impress his manager. Wenger told Arsenal Player:
Overall, Alex has the quality and I can only show that I believe in that in buying him.
Secondly I can show that by playing him – but also by working with him on the training pitch. Alex is developing very well. He is very positive and he works very hard.
Many fans would like to see more of this promising young talent, however with Walcott and Gervinho playing so well it will be difficult, but he will get his chance this winter to prove himself in the Premier League, especially with Gervinho heading off for the African’s nations cup in January and Theo Walcott ‘running in the red’ at the moment.
