With Arsene Wenger’s current contract at the Emirates ending after the 2016/17 season, Arsenal fans have been anxious to have news of the management situation at the club. Sportsbild chief Christian Falk has now revealed on Twitter that the Arsenal manager himself is doing his best to ensure that his successor is none other than football’s hottest managerial property, Pep Guardiola himself.
Pep #Guardiolas future: @MCFC ? @ManUtd ? I see a outside chance for @Arsenal – @SPORTBILD Information: Arsene #Wenger has already called…
— Christian Falk (@cfbayern) December 23, 2015
Pep Guardiola is one of the most wanted managers in the world at the moment, with his career trajectory at Barcelona the stuff of dreams for any manager. After being promoted from manager of the reserves to the first team managerial position, the Spaniard achieved unprecedented success with Barcelona in La Liga, and then replicated it with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The two leagues have very different styles of play, and yet the secret of his success lies in the way he has stamped his ideals on the teams he has managed. The progressive penetration and dominating passing style favoured by Guardiola has often seen his teams compared to Arsenal under Arsene Wenger.
However, this is where the similarities end. Despite numerous titles, consistent Champions League qualification, and record breaking FA Cup success, Arsenal have never been as wildly successful as Pep’s sides. All that may be about to change if we are to believe Christian Falk though, who claims Arsene Wenger has already contacted Pep Guardiola to sound him out about taking the manager’s job at Arsenal after the end of his contract.

Arsenal transfer news
Guardiola is a known admirer of Wenger, and Arsenal’s heritage may well tempt him to take the job. After being successful in two leagues with teams which were already the best in Europe, Arsenal would present a new challenge for Guardiola and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he takes the bait. We are unquestionably a big enough team to appeal to the Spaniard, but the fact that we aren’t already the dominant side in the Premier League means he’d have some squad building to do – something he hasn’t had a huge amount of experience with to date.

As the tweet suggests, we’ll obviously be facing competition from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, but there’s plenty of reason to choose Arsenal over either of the Manchester sides. United just aren’t the same team they once were, and City are merely a money driven side with next to no heritage. We may well still see Guardiola at Arsenal, but unless Wenger retires at the end of the season, timing may be an issue.
