Arsene Wenger has praised the performance of Alexis Sanchez in Sunday’s match despite the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City (via Arsenal.com).
It was easy to be disappointed with so many aspects of the match with Manchester City on Sunday.
The defeat was obviously hard to take but so was the refereeing, the managerial decisions and the performances of most of the starting lineup.
Alexis Sanchez is one man who has attracted much criticism from Arsenal fans of late and his performance against Manchester City was well below par.
However, Arsene Wenger has come out in support of the Chilean in spite of Sanchez’s contract situation.

“I just thought he had a good performance,” Wenger said of Sanchez.
“I felt that in the difficult moments of the game, he did very well because he was on his own up front.
“In the first half, I felt he was very sharp but he had not enough support. Overall, I think he has given everything.”
It’s a bold claim from Arsene Wenger and there is some credit to his words. Sanchez was left isolated at times in the match but his performance was nowhere near his usual standard. In fact, Sanchez has barely performed all season which raises questions about the decision to keep him in the first place.
