Despite La Liga expert Guillem Balague suggesting Karim Benzema will be staying put with Real Madrid this season, reports continue to flood in claiming we are close to signing the Frenchman (via the Metro).
The report claims we are set to make a £40m move for the forward, and that Arsene Wenger is willing to offer him a huge wage packet to bring him to the Emirates.
For those asking: no chance whatsoever of Benzema leaving Real Madrid this summer (so no way he will go to Arsenal)
— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) July 30, 2015
The 27-year-old will apparently be made the highest paid player at the club (via the Metro), which could put him on a phenomenal wage.
Original reports claim our current highest paid player Mesut Özil is earning £140,000 per week (via The Telegraph), but more recently a £180,000 per week deal has been spoken of (via talkSPORT).
It’s unclear just how much Wenger is willing to offer Benzema in order to secure his signature, but with the financial restraints lifted, we can certainly afford it – especially following the recent exits of high earning players like Lukas Podolski.

Real Madrid set asking price for Arsenal target Karim Benzema
We are in need of attacking reinforcements this summer, and only players of the highest calibre would improve our side. Benzema certainly fits the bill, and is one of few elite strikers we should actually be targeting.
We still need to take these rumours with a pinch of salt, but it would be fantastic to see the Bernabeu star arrive at the club.
