Arsene Wenger has hit out at the fans who are criticising his performances, saying that they should start to support the team properly. He also said that he was not overly concerned with the opinions of the fans and that he preferred to focus on his job, which was winning games and concentrating on the team.
The manager has been under fire for most of the season and has urged supporters to show respect in the past, but it appears that the Stoke incident affected him quite a bit. He highlighted that the team have been consistent under his tenure and that he has guaranteed regular Champions League football, something that cannot be taken for granted as United discovered last season.
What is in the word support? Support. It says what it says. I am not a politician who makes a poll every week to see if you support me. I am paid to win football games. My sense is to focus on my job.
I just can repeat that you want respect in society and you want to legally make sure that respect is applied to everybody. Everybody has the right to be respected. I don’t think that anybody likes not to be respected.
Honestly, you don’t think I will find 20 people who say that you are rubbish? Do they represent the majority of people? I don’t know, but you have to win your football games – that’s all.
Look at the history. You have to look realistically at the number of games we lost. One in 25 games at home.

What I expect is to give my best. And if you will look at the history of Arsenal and what we have achieved in the last 18 years, we have moved forward and that what is what we want to continue to do.
I have played my 180th Champions league game. Look at how many Champions League games before I arrived, you will see the number is very restricted.
The Frenchman then went on to say that the team’s form was sure to improve and that the big teams would climb to the top of the table now that everybody was playing on the same schedule.
This has been an issue in the past as well, teams that don’t have to play in Europe generally do better in the League. Look at Liverpool from last season or Southampton and West Ham from this season. Also, teams like Everton and Liverpool who entered European competition this season are doing very badly in the League. Obviously, this is not an acceptable excuse, but the manager says that it is a potential cause for fatigue and injuries.
It always happens. People don’t [consider] that you can go away to Turkey on Wednesday night and then Sunderland on Saturday morning, then after you lose the game everybody says ‘what a scandal that is!’.
Look at some teams who qualified surprisingly for the Europa League. They play the Europa League and the year after they nearly go down.
Everybody is now on the same schedule. For example when we lost at Stoke you can say we can send a complete reserve team to Galatasaray but if you lose again you face a storm, so at least you have to go there with a chance to win the game.
Evidently the manager is getting tired of the constant accusations directed at him. Maybe it is time to lay off a little bit and let him focus on his job, at least until the summer. Then there will be more than enough time for all the finger pointing in the world.
