Rumours of a potential move for Karim Benzema have been heating up recently, and the move is looking more and more likely, according to talkSPORT.
Arsene Wenger has dismissed the links as “media talk” (via talkSPORT), but in the same interview refused to rule out a move for an exceptional player – if one were to become available.
“I never came out on Karim Benzema. It is just media talk,” Wenger said.
“At the moment we do not have [Alexis] Sanchez, not [Danny] Welbeck, and when these players come back we feel that we have the needed striking force,” Wenger said.
“But we don’t rule out as well if something exceptional turns up to do it.”
It’s hard to see any other exceptional players suddenly becoming available, so hopefully there is some truth behind the Benzema rumours. He would be a fantastic acquisition, and we would be close to a complete squad if he were to arrive.

Wenger is known for being deceptive in the transfer market, and prefers to keep his business quiet until it’s complete. He may well be doing the same with Benzema, as there is usually no smoke without fire.
With talkSPORT reporting that Real Madrid need to sell this summer to pay off their debts, all the signals are pointing to a potential transfer. We can’t count our chickens just yet however, and must wait until the deal is over the line.
