It’s well documented that Aaron Ramsey wants to play through the middle, but he may have to wait a while to get his wish. Arsene Wenger insists he will continue to use the Welshman on the right though, as to use him anywhere else would disrupt the balance of the team, as reported by the Mirror.
Wenger loves to play a more centrally minded player out wide, and recently that’s been Ramsey. It’s worked extremely well, but Wenger’s comments suggest he only really uses the 24-year-old out wide because he doesn’t fit in anywhere else.
“I use Ramsey on the right. That’s where I will certainly continue to use him, unless the game demands to attack,” Wenger said.
“He is more an offensive player. He is not a tactical, defensive player.
“I will use him sometimes there [centrally], when the game demands.
I used him on the right because he gives us a balance because we have [Mesut] Özil, who is an offensive player, we have [Alexis] Sanchez, we have [Olivier] Giroud or [Theo] Walcott and [Santi] Cazorla, so we need to balance a bit defensively.”

We have a real lack of quality on the wings, with Alexis Sanchez our only really top quality wide man. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is close, but his end product is still lacking and his defensive errors regularly prove costly.
Wenger’s not wrong to use Ramsey out wide, as unfortunately he doesn’t offer what some of his teammates do in the middle. He’s an excellent attacking threat, but doesn’t offer nearly as much in the No.10 role as Mesut Özil. He could take Cazorla’s role in midfield next to a defensive midfielder, but he likes to get forward whenever possible and could leave the likes of Francis Coquelin or Mathieu Flamini exposed. Cazorla is far more comfortable spraying passes from deep and dictating play, something Ramsey isn’t quite as proficient in.
Ramsey actually has excellent defensive qualities, with his work-rate allowing him to constantly harass the opposition. He doesn’t have the discipline to play in a deeper role though, and even if he did, his attacking qualities would be wasted sitting in front of the defence.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully this news doesn’t disappoint Ramsey too much, and he accepts that his role for the moment will be out wide.
