There has been plenty of speculation around the media recently with Fabregas struggling to recreate the form he demonstrated with the Gunners, consequently Barcelona want to strengthen considerably this summer.
Arsenal reportedly have first refusal on the attacking midfielder should the Catalan giants wish to sell, and still at a young age of 25 he is still in his prime. Unfortunately for the Spanish international he has struggled to integrate into the Barca starting lineup and has received plenty of criticism for his performances.
Fabregas briefly responded to questions over his future, he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports:
I do not know what is being said and even what is written. I can only say that I alone know my own future.
Quite a cryptic response, something else he learnt from Wenger! The paragraph has spread far and wide giving Gooners hope that the midfield maestro may return sooner than expected, but it barely offers any stance to his current under-fire position in his homeland.
Arsene Wenger was then quizzed on the rumours linking him with a move for his former captain. The Frenchman responded:
No, it is not a short term option [for him to return]. The short-term option for us is to just to focus on tomorrow’s game and finish the season well. That’s the short term option!
It may not be the short term goal with the season yet to end but it should certainly be a long term goal for the club – resigning him would be a huge statement and best for his career.
Bring back Cesc!
