Arsene Wenger has responded to reports that Mesut Ozil “picks and chooses” the games he plays in (via Arsenal.com).
Mesut Ozil’s fitness is something which has always been a cause for concern amongst Arsenal fans.
The German misses more than his fair share of matches and has come under particular scrutiny after missing Sunday’s win over Burnley despite playing against Atletico Madrid several years previous.
Now, Arsene Wenger has responded to the suggestion made by Martin Keown that Ozil “picks and chooses” his matches.
“Football players are not like that,” he said in his pre-match press conference.
“I think if he’s injured, he’s injured. It looks like that sometimes where a player can go over the pain for one game and after has a reoccurrence of inflammation.

“He wanted to play on Sunday.”
It comes on the same day as reports that many of the Arsenal players are unhappy with Mesut Ozil’s attitude both on the pitch and off it.
It’s unclear how much truth is in these reports but it is interesting to see how Wenger has responded to them. Mesut Ozil is clearly a talented player an statistics show that he does work harder on the pitch than many people believe. However, his style of play and mannerisms will always attract criticism.
