Arsene Wenger is set to rest Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Southampton on Saturday evening, according to The Mirror.
The Chile international has made 28 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring 17 goals, to help Arsenal to second in the table and into the last 16 of the Champions League.
The 28-year-old was left out of the third round win over Preston with Olivier Giroud handed a start and scoring a late winner as Arsenal came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1.
Wenger now looks set to leave Sanchez out again, as he is eager to give more game time to Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez.
Welbeck is returning to action after a long lay-off through injury but has yet to start for the Gunners this season while Perez started the third round clash and could be in line for another run out.
The Mirror claims Sanchez will not be happy with Wenger’s decision although with Watford to come in midweek along with a key game against Chelsea next week, it makes perfect sense.

Arsenal will take on Southampton hoping for revenge after being knocked out of the EFL Cup by Claude Puel’s side back in November.
However, the Gunners have beaten the Saints this season, a 2-1 win at the Emirates thanks to goals from Laurent Koscielny and a 94th minute penalty from Santi Cazorla.
