Arsene Wenger believes there will be a chance for a number of Arsenal’s starlets to shine this season after a selection of youngsters performed admirably during their pre-season tour, and Arsenal’s academy has churned out some more exciting youngsters.
Wenger brought along a few of the top reserve team stars along for the Gunners Far East Tour, and they managed to impress the Frenchman with some encouraging performances leading to suggestions that the new wave of talent may have a say in the upcoming season.
The likes of goalscorers Chuks Aneke and Thomas Eisfeld as well as Benik Afobe, Nico Yennaris and Ryo impressed against a Malaysia XI side and Manchester City, and Wenger believes they can all stake a claim in the Gunners first team this season, as well as some other 16-17 year old youngster’s.
Wenger told a press conference in Hong Kong as revealed on Arsenal’s official website:
We have some young players who are already experienced, for example if I tell you Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, you will tell me he is not young but he is 18 years old.
Jack Wilshere is 20, Aaron Ramsey is 21 and we have some more young players who might push up this season.

On tour we have Chuks Aneke who has shown quality and of course Ryo. We also have younger players who are 16 or 17, who are not with us on tour, who will certainly appear this season. We are faithful to what we want to do which is to promote young players and give them a chance at that level.
I’m certainly excited to see Oxlade-Chamberlain be utilized this season as well as Ryo and hopefully Eisfeld who has looked promising. The German star hopefully can grow and develop into the attacking midfielder role which has failed to be filled since the absence of Fabregas and Nasri, with Ramsey probably a more effective box-to-box midfielder, and Rosicky injury prone. The former Dortmund starlet should get his chance in the Carling Cup and will likely be part of the first team squad this season.
It will also be interesting to see if some of the young strikers still get a chance to perform as Aneke and Afobe will have to compete with the likes of Chamakh and Park as well as new acquisitions Podolski and Giroud, and that’s without counting Van Persie.
Wenger has also stressed that they are still looking to add a couple more additions to the squad, but an abundance of young talent it’s difficult to see the Frenchman splashing out too much more.
I would also like to see more of the centreback and reserve team captain Miquel this season who is a talented youngster that has been unable to break past Djourou in the pecking order. Barcelona have been reportedly trying to lure him back to the Nou Camp, and he is more than capable at stepping up this season.
