Arsene Wenger has said that midfielder Santi Cazorla will be fit and ready to return to the first-team around the festive period this year (via Arsenal.com).
He’s become something of a forgotten man at Arsenal but Santi Cazorla is still at the club and on the path back from a lengthy injury layoff.
The Spaniard hasn’t played for almost twelve months with many Arsenal supporters craving his ability in midfield right now.
Now, Arsene Wenger has set a return date for Cazorla which can’t come soon enough for the Gunners.
“The flexibility of his ankle looks good, his mobility is good and now it’s about getting back to full fitness without having any setbacks,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference.
“It’s very difficult to predict when he will be available again. I think it’s very difficult to set a time. Not before Christmas, that’s why I didn’t involve him in the Europa League, but overall I hope that after Christmas he will be available.

“Yes [I think he’ll play at the highest level again] but he has not played for a year now. He’s had a few surgeries so you are always cautious to set a time or date, but overall, yes it looks positive.”
Santi Cazorla is one of the best footballers Arsenal have had in the last decade and it’s such a shame that injuries have kept him out of the team for so long. His passing range and control in the midfield is so desperately needed alongside Granit Xhaka in this system. Let’s hope he gets back fit and ready to play and has a good few years left in him.
