Arsene Wenger has urged Lucas Perez to step up his game and impress in Tuesday’s EFL Cup fourth round clash with Reading.
The 28-year-old has scored just two goals for the Gunners since his summer move from Deportivo La Coruna, both coming in the last round of the competition as Nottingham Forest were crushed 4-0.
Perez is expected to feature at the Emirates and Wenger says he needs to show the form he does in training on match-day.
“I believe he has the potential to be a great player for us. In training he continues to show he has the potential to play, he now has to transfer that into the games,” he told the official Arsenal website.
“The more he does that – against Reading he will have an opportunity — the more we will be tempted to say, ‘let’s do it.'”
Wenger also praised Perez for his display in the 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets, as the striker set up Mesut Ozil twice as the Germany international completed a hat-trick.

“He did extremely well against Ludogorets because he came on and gave two great goals,” he added
“He was a bit like the rest of the team against Middlesbrough, in that he could not have as big an impact because the whole team was not functioning as well.”
Despite the potential return of Olivier Giroud, Perez should get some game time against Reading and it will be a perfect opportunity, as Wenger says, for him to get on the scoresheet and reignite his Arsenal career.
