There are rumours from sources such as the DailyStar, that Arsenal are interested in signing the ex Chelsea man Salomon Kalou before the end of the transfer window tonight. With a release clause of apparently just £2.5 million, he is certainly a bargain alternative to the likes of Julian Draxler, but is this any more than a manufactured rumour?
Arsene Wenger has previously stated that he is a fan of the Ivorian, but is he really of the quality that Arsenal need at the moment? His numbers since moving to Ligue 1 are fairly impressive, contributing to more than 30 goals for Lille in his season and a half there. His stats at Chelsea were nothing to scoff at either, and having spent 6 years with the Blues, he certainly has the Premier League experience required. But having been let go after his contract was allowed to expire, he should certainly be considered a last resort. The proposed move appears to be a permanent one rather than a loan signing, this would be a mistake in my opinion, as I believe Kalou has the potential to become dead wood at Arsenal in the coming seasons.
This seems like the kind of rumour that is bred from putting 2 and 2 together to get 5, rather than any real evidence. But we will know more come 11pm tonight.
