Arsene Wenger is apparently still looking to sign a top class forward before the window slams shut, but is waiting for a go ahead signal from Paris Saint-Germain before making a move for Edinson Cavani, according to the Evening Standard.
As the report suggests, we have now seemingly missed out on Karim Benzema – who was our top target. The manager has apparently turned his attention to Edinson Cavani, but is hoping for some encouragement from the Ligue 1 champions.
PSG have allegedly shown no interest in selling the Uruguayan, which more than likely means the fee would be hugely inflated. The French club paid a huge amount for the 28-year-old when they signed him back in 2013, and would presumably at the very least be looking to recoup some of that colossal fee.
Cavani has been playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the past, something that obviously could have unsettled him. With the Standard’s report suggesting that both the Swede and Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi are set for Parc de Princes exits though, they may tighten their grip on Cavani.

World class forwards are in short supply at the moment, but hopefully Wenger is able to look farther afield and find a player to improve our fortunes in the Premier League.
