First and foremost, I think that congratulations are in order to all the players and the fans who stood by them during yesterdays nail biting FA Cup Final which saw Arsenal get their hands on a long over due piece of silver wear. After what could possibly have been the worst start by any team in the history of FA Cup Finals (which could have been worse if it wasn’t for Kieren Gibbs), we fought back fantastically to win our 11th FA Cup and the 5th under Arsene Wenger.
Anyway, as happens come every May, the rumour mill begins to work overtime. We all know that there are several positions which Arsenal need to strengthen this summer, with a defensive midfielder, striker and right back area’s which are of a priority. However, some sources are reporting that Wenger is looking to bring another wide man to the Emirates this summer. In this article I will be looking at the three options for him to consider.
One – Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann is the shining star of the exciting Real Sociedad team. Here you can see the highlights of a magnificent season that the Frenchmen has had, scoring 16 goals and assisting in three. Griezmann has pace and, as seen from the statistics, a tidy eye for goal. This is good for Arsenal, as it means that we can have goals coming from all over the pitch and we are less easily ‘marked out of the game’ as we have often been criticised in resent seasons for not being able to break teams down. Griezmann also has the ability to create space for himself, having the ability to drift all over the pitch and pop up anywhere, stretching defences and making goal-scoring chances. On the negative side, however, he isn’t a player with a large physical build and may take some time to adapt to the Premier Leagues style, when ideally we want somebody who can have an immediate impact.
Two – Julian Draxler
Julian Draxler is a player that Arsenal have been courting for a long time, after all, who can forget the big fuss in January over this lad. He is a versatile player who has played in all position behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, scoring five and assisting seven in all competitions this season. While those statistics aren’t going to make anybody turn their heads, it is worth noting that the Westphalian born youngster has struggled with injuries this term. This YouTube video shows the highlights of his season and gives us an insight into his style of play. His dribbling style reminds me of Arjen Robben which gives Arsenal another dynamic, and is comfortable taking a shot from inside or outside the box, which is something we could improve on this year.

Three – Angel Di Maria
Angel Di Maria is the only one of these three who is an established name. Di Maria is world class in his position and is unfortunate to play in the same team as Ronaldo and Bale, because if he wasn’t he would get himself more of the credit he deserves. He has scored a very respectable eight goals and has assisted 22 goals which is fantastic. He also has a level or versatility, as this season he has also began to fill in a central midfield role for Los Blancos this season. He has a fantastic left foot, is extremely creative and is a specialist at set pieces. If we signed Di Maria we would have a genuine world class player on our roster which would require little or no development by Wenger.
So Gooners, after yesterdays triumph, which of these three would you sign if you had the chance?
