Arsene Wenger has said that he wants Jack Wilshere to retire at Arsenal. The midfielder made a Deadline Day loan move to Bournemouth but the Boss has said that it will not impact his long-term future at the club (via Arsenal.com).
It was certainly a surprising transfer and Arsene Wenger has finally spoken about the deal which took Jack Wilshere to AFC Bournemouth on loan for the season.
“We had a chat together, he himself was concerned that he would not get enough competition and games early enough, he feels ready to play.” Wenger said at his pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Southampton. “I couldn’t guarantee that and thought it was logical to give him time to come back to a top level.
“You need to play and I couldn’t give him that. He wanted games and I can understand his desire. It was a logical decision. Last season he didn’t play and it’s important for him that he gets the games he needs.”
Wilshere will spend the season at Dean Court before returning to the Emirates next season. However the midfielder has just two years left on his current contract and there were question marks over whether Wilshere would be staying at the Emirates. “I hope personally that he stays his whole career here.” Wenger said.
“He’s a world class player and he doesn’t need to show me that at Bournemouth [to get a new contract].” Well that’s put that to bed. Wenger’s comments will make for good reading for Arsenal fans who were worried about Wilshere’s long-term future at the club. Hopefully Jack can have an excellent season at Bournemouth and come back to the Emirates next year with a new contract and the fitness to play 50 matches.
