Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident his side will bounce back from its Capital One Cup exit when it entertains Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Gunners were brushed aside 2-0 by a strong Chelsea side at the Emirates, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata scoring the goals which inflicted Arsenal’s second home defeat upon them in as many games, after their 2-1 Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund.
The French manager allayed fears of a slump and is confident the league leaders will be fully focused on victory against Brendan Rodgers’ side, who are currently sitting in third place.
Speaking to the Arsenal official website, he said:
We will respond against Liverpool, don’t worry.
The home form is a concern but not as big as the statistics show it, because I felt in big games against Dortmund and [Chelsea] we gave easy goals away.
There are positives and negatives, the negatives are we give the goals away, the positives are that we don’t give many chances away. So we have to keep doing that and focus on the next game.

It was a disappointing [result against Chelsea] because we put a lot of effort in and played at a high pace and put ourselves on the back foot. Then of course you have to take a big risk always and be a bit open on the counter-attack, and in the end we got punished.
The first goal was a turning point because it was a corner for us and then a goal for them. Overall we have to learn from that and get back into the next game without losing our drive going forward but be a bit more composed in our final third.
Arsenal have been in a great form after their opening day loss to Aston Villa but have faced a few bumps in the past few weeks. Both Dortmund and Chelsea have left North London with a win, and the team made pretty hard work of the Crystal Palace fixture at the weekend. It’s a worrying factor to know that although the Gunners sit at the top of the league, we are still struggling to beat some of the top sides.
Although it’s too early to put these results under the microscope, if Arsenal want some silverware they should make a habit of gaining some results against the big teams. Without Walcott, Chamberlain and Podolski, we look short of pace and goal threat out wide which has also contributed to these results but with all of them coming back in the next month or so, some better performances are on the horizon.
The Gunners need a result against Liverpool and if we can somehow keep Suarez quiet then we can fancy our chances as the Kop’s defence is as vulnerable as ours. This is the time to prove our title credentials and nothing less than a win will be required to do that.
