Arsene Wenger remains upbeat about our title chances despite out disappointing loss against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, but his ridiculous post-match comments suggest he wasn’t even watching the same game, as reported by Arsenal.com.
The manager insists we can bounce back from the defeat, and has urged us to get back into the title race against Swansea in midweek. The weird part about his post-match interview, was that Wenger claimed he couldn’t fault our committment or energy, which to anyone that watched the game is insane.
“We have to show that we are at the level of this fight,” he said.
“Things can change quickly. We need to bounce back quickly on Wednesday night.
“We put ourselves on a bad foot by giving two goals away on crosses. After that, it became difficult.
“But we gave a lot. We came back to 2-1 but then gave them the third goal. It was a difficult game for us but I cannot fault our commitment, our energy.

“Unfortunately, at the moment, in the final third we didn’t create enough and they defended well.
“They defended well and made many fouls in the middle of the park that stopped our flow. I think that’s a little problem in the modern game.”
If there were two things that certainly could be faulted this past Sunday, it was our commitment and our energy. The players looked lazy and uninterested for large parts of the game, and our total lack of energy was the main reason we conceded so easily and so regularly.
The players were regularly seen jogging back when they should have been breaking their necks to get back into position, and a number of usually reliable stars were switching off and letting their runners go unmarked. That combined with sloppy passing and a lack of intensity sealed our downfall, and after conceding the first goal we never looked like recovering.

Even our goals were lazy looking, coming through luck and poor defending from United rather than any real quality or desire on our behalf. Wenger can’t be held responsible all the time, and in this case it was the players that really let us down. But you have to wonder what game Wenger was watching, and if he can’t see the problems with our performance against United then how can we expect him to fix them for our upcoming games against Swansea and Tottenham?
