With the summer transfer window in full flight and not a single senior signing on Arsenal’s books, we ask our readers who do you think should be Arsenal’s top priority transfer signing this summer?
The likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez are two of the most hotly linked strikers while Marouane Fellaini and Julio Cesar are other top names flirted with the Gunners, even a move for ex captain Cesc Fabregas has been suggested. In defence Ashley Williams remains one of the favorites to be brought in especially with the news of Vermaelen’s two-three month layoff, but still Arsene Wenger has yet to get the cheque book out.
The Gunners do have a talented set of youngsters with new signing Yaya Sanogo who joined from Auxerre on a free this summer and academy graduate Chuba Akpom hoping to get a look in, while starlets Gedion Zelalem and Serge Gnabry are pushing for senior opportunities which will play heavily on Wenger’s mind.
Bacary Sagna will provide cover at centre back in the meantime which allows Carl Jenkinson to get involved, but you cannot help but feel the Gunners require more depth in defence. A defensive midfielder has always seemed a must-have but the emergence of a successful partnership between Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta places a question mark over a move for someone in the mould of Fellaini.
The rest of the midfield and the wings are quite heavily stocked, but despite some of the youth prospects the striking department needs reinforcements and that is essentially where the money will be most likely spent.
