When Aaron Ramsey twanged his hamstring for the third time this season while he came on as a substitute against Leicester City, less than 10 minutes after coming on for the ineffective Walcott, I thought Ramsey’s season was over. Ramsey was replaced by Mathieu Flamini for the rest of the game.
It has been something of a stop start season for the Welshman, he’s not been overplayed as was the case last season and actually he’s one of those who had a summer break and a proper preseason. His case is similar to that of Mikel Arteta’s. The Captain himself suffered from a persistent calf problem only to discover there was a spur in his bone.
Arsene Wenger in his pre Middlesbrough press conference admitted that he had no clue to Ramsey’s current predicament. The good news was that it’s just a grade one hamstring and Aaron should return in two weeks:
We haven’t found the underlying reason. There is clearly a reason, whether it is medical or bio-mechanical.It is just we have to find the reason why that happens. This is just a small injury, a grade one hamstring tear. We are looking at a couple of weeks.
But there is this nagging suspicion has Ramsey fully recovered from the Shawcross challenge? Or is he still feeling the effects of that reckless tackle from that moron? We may never know.
But if there is a silver lining to the Aaron Ramsey injury cloud it’s the return of Jack’ shisha’ Wilshere. The Englishman has returned to full training and he will definitely play some part in the Middlesbrough game.
Now this is a crucial period for Wilshere, he has to perform to get into the first team as a regular. As of now he’s not worth a place in the starting XI, Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla are more in form players than Jack. But Ramsey’s injury has opened the door a bit wider for the midfielder, he has to perform and he has an opportunity to prove himself.
Wilshere’s off field shenanigans haven’t helped his cause. Yes injuries have played a part, but it’s the responsibility of a player to keep himself fit. Smoking and nights out aren’t going to do him any good. Wilshere can no longer cite youth as an excuse for his under performance, he’s 23 and it’s time he fulfills the unquestionable potential.

The staggering inconsistency hasn’t helped the team, Wenger early in the season moved Ozil to the left to accommodate Wilshere and Ramsey in the same team but it’s fair to say it has yielded mixed results. I am not entirely convinced both Ramsey and Wilshere can play in the same team but for now Wilshere can stake his claim in the absence of Ramsey.
