Nye on every morning I find myself trolling through Allarsenal.com, the Rumour Mill (the Guardian), the obligatory typing of ‘Arsenal’ into the ‘News’ category on Google and god forbid the Daily Mail in search of transfer tid bits. Inevitably there is an endless source of supposed ‘confirmed’ deals as in the case of Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid) in the upcoming January transfer window.
Names like Benezema, Ba and Benteke are almost ever present, and that’s only the B’s. However much I troll and search… I see myself reaching the inevitable conclusion that Arsenal will not sign anyone. Prior opinion pieces I have bemoaned the lake of endeavour in the market, but this time round I will not be heartbroken at the inevitable; Wenger quoted saying he could not find the ‘top top class talent’ for a reasonable price. Sure we lack a back up to Olivier Giroud, but I cannot see Wenger buying another striker if Walcott, Podolski, Bendnter etc… remain fit and Arsenal are at the top of table. He does not operate in that fashion when you are paying over and above for a player who is not ‘top top’ and realistically has previous European commitments.
I cannot see Arsenal signing anyone, the midfield seems comfortably stocked (plus we get Abou Diaby back in March! For probably a week before he gets injured again… but it will be a great week!) there is competition for places with the Ox due back Janurary-ish and plenty of competition from the likes of Gnabry. Defensively consistency is the key, and so far things are going swimmingly (touch wood). This weekend will be a thorough examination with Manchester Shitty (ha!). If we come through that unscathed I can’t really see the January transfer window providing much substantive happenings apart from David Moyes scrambling around various clubs begging for a midfield.
I maybe proved completely wrong and Arsenal will bring in a superstar striker, a pacey winger and a right back. Viera bringing up the issue of the lack of leaders maybe fair, but I thought everyone weeks ago was raving about the communication and leadership skills of Flamini, Arteta and Mertesacker! But maybe I was hearing things. Unless Arsenal slide down the Premier League, injuries become inundating or Olivier Giroud breaks his legs I can’t see anything happening at the Emirates. I believe this squad has what it takes, and if it doesn’t the winter transfer window will not be the solution.
