Jack Wilshere will face action for his middle finger gesture away to Manchester City, with The FA confirming they are set to charge him for “making an offensive and/or insulting and/or abusive gesture”.
The Gunners midfielder grew frustrated with the home support and acted out, however it was missed by the match officials but caught on camera.
Here is an extract from The FA’s statement released on their official website:
Wilshere has been charged retrospectively by The FA under a new pilot project for potential ‘not seen’ incidents in Premier League matches.
Under the new process, if an incident has not been seen by the match officials, a three-man panel will be asked by The FA to review it and advise what, if any action, they believe the match referee should have taken had it been witnessed at the time.
For an FA charge to follow, all three panel members must agree it is a sending-off offence. In this instance, the panel were unanimous.

Wilshere has until 6pm on 18 December to respond to the charge.
Naturally Wilshere will accept the charge which could render him suspended for the forthcoming Chelsea tie on Monday.
Unfortunately the incident is another incident to discredit his maturity, but like some of his other endeavors, he needs to learn from this and try and eliminate needless bad press from himself.
We will announce the outcome of his charge in due course.
